Me & Jezebel

WITH CARPENTER SQUARE THEATRE

NOVEMBER 24 - DECEMBER 16, 2017

What if Margo Channing came for dinner and Baby Jane stayed for breakfast? Star-struck Elizabeth Fuller's dream came true one evening in 1985 when legendary actress Bette Davis came to dinner at her dilapidated New England cottage and ended up staying for over a month like The Man Who Came to Dinner. Fuller’s hilarious true story captures the challenges of trying to please the irascible queen of Hollywood in so adverse a condition as ordinary life. Then, after 32 days, the New York hotel strike ends, and the star departs as quickly as she arrived. But she leaves behind a gracious thank you letter and, as Bette Davis herself might have said, one hell-uv-a good story.

Souvenir

WITH PAINTED SKY OPERA

FEBRUARY 23 - MARCH 4, 2018

For more than seventy years, the name of Florence Foster Jenkins has been synonymous with unintended comedy for fans of classical singing.  Her recordings of out-of-tune and mumbled songs were passed from one music lover to another as an example of the worst singing that recorded history had to offer.  Most amazingly, Florence had no idea that she was terrible.

Stephen Temperley details Florence’s rise to “fame” in this hilarious and touching two-person play with incidental music.  Told from the point of view of Florence’s long-suffering pianist, Cosmé McMoon, Souvenir delves into the long relationship between pianist and singer and reveals how true beauty can come from the least beautiful of singing voices.

Messiah!

WITH CANTERBURY VOICES

DECEMBER 3, 2017

Canterbury Voices takes you to a place where few choral groups can go! The current Messiah trend is to go purist, using Handel’s modest original Baroque orchestrations. At the opposite end of the spectrum lies an arrangement written in 1957 that is so grandiose, the stage is full of musicians and the impact is unforgettable. Canterbury will feature the famed arrangement by Goosens with instruments only seen in large, Romantic orchestras—two harps, four horns, and a full wind section. The text in this version is amplified by the full orchestra, whether it’s the gentle melody of the opening words “Comfort ye”, or the sheer invigorating “Hallelujah” chorus, this concert will be inspiring! Members of the OKC Philharmonic will join us for this concert.

Come celebrate this Christmas with one of the world’s most beloved musical works!
